Introduction of Ministry
The Board of Directors (the Board) has oversight of the personnel affairs and budget of the Highland Park Christian Academy (HPCA). It has the power and authority to perform all acts and functions consistent with its Bylaws and the Articles of Incorporation for the First Baptist Church of Highland Park, Inc.
Our mission is to promote and support the academic, physical, mental, social and spiritual development of the students of HPCA as stated in Proverbs 22:6 of the Holy Bible admonishing Christians to “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it”. (KJV)
Highland Park Christian Academy is one of the oldest of the 122 private schools in Prince Georges County. It began as a day care in 1983 by the late Reverend Dr. James J. McCord, former Pastor of First Baptist Church of Highland Park, to realize his vision for the children of the church to be educated in a Christian environment. A Board of Directors for the day care was also established at this time. Ten years after its conception on August 28, 1993 a newly built Education Building was completed and the day care moved in with an enrollment of 100 children mostly from the employees and congregation of the church. The following year, kindergarten classes were added to the educational program and the Highland Park Day Care was renamed The Highland Park Christian Academy (HPCA). From 1997- 2002, grades 1-6 were added and in March 2010 the Academy expanded to middle school adding grades 7 and 8.
